Lessons from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

As far as a campaign goes, I think the Ice Bucket Challenge was extremely successful. Even if it was only for a short duration, it raised awareness AND money. So I think that's great.

The most interesting thing I thought about the Ice Bucket Challenge was the sort of backlash it had. After it really started to gain momentum, you started seeing articles about how there are so many other causes that were more deserving of your money. I remember one in particular pointing out all the deadliest diseases (heart disease, diabetes, etc.) and how your chances of dying from one of these was FAR greater than your chances of developing ALS. I thought that was a little unfair to the underlying point of the Ice Bucket Challenge (ie, raising awareness and money).
