Emergence of E-Learning as a Field

I find it particularly interesting how many times there have been advances in the instructional design and technology field, and yet, standard classroom teaching remained the norm. Even after reading Bob Reiser's "A History of Instructional Design and Technology", I would get excited reading about how television was going to revolutionize teaching, and then, no, it really didn't change anything.
However, I still think it's worth having enthusiasm toward new technologies. You never what might be the catalyst to completely revolutionizing the way we teach and learn. I do think that, well computers had a slow start, they are starting to change how people learn. My seven year old daughter uses a computer everyday in school. And even today she asked me if she could start to learn Spanish using an online/computer program. She is trained to think that leaning and technology are inherently connected, and I think that's pretty cool.
